Where installing Openalea_Lpy

Hello everyone,
I am not sure that’s the right place to ask but I would like to have some opinions about that. I am a plant scientist working on hazelnut, thus, I hope you can forgive me if this is a simple computer science question.

I feel like maybe my computer has not enough power to work with FSPMs because the program I am using (Lpy in this case) stops running very often. I have everything installed on my personal computer because, in this way, I can continue modelling also when I am working from home.
I think that maybe, I could switch to a workstation at my university. Do you think this could help me run my architecture without crashing the program?
Do you work with FSPMs with PCs or workstations?

thanks so much for reading

Hi Francesca,

Definitely the right place to ask the question.

I’m not an Lpy user but, I use a similar system in vlab /Lstudio. I use a laptop for most things, especially development of models, but if things get too big, they can cause issues. How many components are there in your hazelnut structure when you run the model? Does it stop running when you are trying to run a big structure?

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks so much Jim for your answers.
The program crashes when I run the script in order to simulate the growth in many years (6 years). So maybe it is a problem of the “bigness” of the run.
I am trying to do some validations of the geometry of the tree. Thus, because the real trees, from which I took my samples, were 6 years old, I thought about taking the virtual tree till it has the same age as the real ones.
I am already in contact with the developer of the program @fredboudon and he’s helping me with this issue.
I just wanted to know if I was the only one using my personal pc for FSPMs. I had the fear that maybe it was not the best idea when working with FSPMs.

thanks again
Francesca
